The Old Museum Building is a heritage-listed former exhibition building, former museum and now performance venue in Bowen Hills, Brisbane. It was designed by architect George Henry Male Addison and built c. 1891 to c. 1891.
Using Spatial Ops technology, we were able to provide the architects with an accurate 3D model of the building and grounds as well as creating a historical record of the building. We used point cloud data from the 3D laser scan to provide base drawings in Revit/CAD, with detailing from skirtings to balustrades, to large tree diameters and building facades. This digital capture from a five-day site visit enabled us to start the sketch design process within a short timeframe. The intricate detail captured by the scanner would traditionally be unattainable at such speed using manual measurements to replicate building elements.
In just over five days, we took internal and external colour scans to capture complex and precise data about the building. We measured over 80 arches, dozens of doors, ceilings, trusses, the roof structure and attic. Using computer-aided design (CAD) modelling, we’ve produced ‘as-built’ plans, sections and elevations that can be used for archiving as well as any future work on the site.
